some changes blowing in the wind

Abril voou e Maio já chegou. Não parece (porque não partilhei) mas têm sido dias intensos cheios de emoções, celebrações, aprendizagens e viagens! Tenho tanto para partilhar! Mas hoje o post é sobre outra coisa. Quando estava a preparar os posts sobre os últimos dias começou a pesar-me um cansaço com este blog. Faltam poucos dias para o blog fazer 8 anos (!) e apesar do enorme carinho que tenho por este espaço que acompanhou a minha vida-montanha-russa sinto necessidade de mudar. Quero um novo começo, uma lufada de ar fresco... Por isso estou a criar um blog novo!

Queria também que o blog alinhasse com meu projecto fotográfico kanpai! e gostava de incluir a palavra kanpai no nome do novo blog. O que eu queria mesmo era um www.kanpai.blogspot.com mas este já está registado (malandro!) por isso venho pedir a vossa ajuda em delinear um novo nome!
Gostava que tivesse a palavra kanpai mas terá que ser combinada com outra, tipo hellokanpai ou kanpaiworld. Tenho andado a pensar mas sabem quando repetem tanto uma palavra que já tudo soa terrível? Preciso de ajuda, alguém tem alguma ideia? Deixem um comentário! Arigato!

April flew by and now May has arrived. It doesn't seem so (because I didn't share) but I have been living full days of intense emotions, celebrations, learning and travel! I have so much to share! But today's post is about something else. When preparing the posts about the last days I began to feel weary about this blog. In a few days this blog will turn eight years (!) and despite the enormous affection I have for this space that has accompanied my roller-coaster life I feel the need to change. I want a new beginning, some fresh air ... So I'm creating a new blog!

I also wanted the blog to align with my photographic project kanpai! and wished to include the word kanpai the name of the new blog. What I really wanted was a www.kanpai.blogspot.com but it is already registered (bastard!) so I would like to ask for your help in finding a new name!
I would really like it to have the word kanpai but must be combined with another one, like hellokanpai kanpaiworld. I've been thinking but do you know when you repeat a word so much that now everything sounds terrible? I need help, does anyone have any idea? Leave a comment please! Arigato!

DIY: business cards

Quando abri a minha loja, eu tinha tantas ideias e tanta coisa na minha cabeça que fui adiando a encomenda de cartões de visita. Alguns dias antes da minha primeira feira de artesanato percebi que não tinha nada para dar aos visitantes do meu espaço! Felizmente até consigo ser engenhosa e depois de mergulhar nos meus materiais criei estes cartões à mão.

When I started my business I had so many ideas and so much going on in my mind that I delayed ordering some business cards. Some days before my first craft fair I realised I didn't have anything to give to my stall visitors! But one thing I can tell you is that I can be quite resourceful so I dove into my craft supplies and came out with this cute handmade business cards. 

Esta solução também pode ser útil se estiveres a experimentar uma ideia e não quiseres o compromisso de encomendar 1000 cartões de visita. Eu adoro esta ideia, são fáceis e divertidos de fazer. Aqui está como eu fiz:

1. Usei um teste de impressão de uma foto em papel espesso (testo sempre as minhas imagens antes de adicioná-las à loja). Também podes usar cartolina ou outros pedaços de papel bonito desde que tenha alguma área livre.
2. Os cartões têm geralmente cerca de 85×55 mm (3,5 × 2 in), mas eu não fui muito estrita e a imagem tinha uma boa dimensão para 6 cartões ligeiramente menores do que o standard.
3. A parte divertida! Tira os teus carimbos da caixa e desata a decorar!
4. Coloca as informações importante. Eu já tinha um carimbo DIY há algum tempo(tipo estes),por isso foi só montar o nome da loja e e-mail.
5. Pronto para espalhar a palavra!

Ps: Eu sei que podia ter usado o photoshop ou o ilustrator e impresso os cartões mas gosto sempre mais das soluções feitas à mão. Podem não parecer profissionais mas têm personalidade.
Pps: Se não gostam do feito à mão sempre podem ir à minha loja favorita para cartões...

This solution can also be really helpful if you are trying out something and don't want to make the compromise with ordering 1000+ business cards. I loved this idea so much, they are easy and fun to make. Here's how I did it:

1. Picked one of my photo's test prints in heavy paper (I always test print my photos before adding them to the shop). You can also use cardboard or any beautiful paper scraps you have around as long as you have some blank area.

2. Business cards are usually about 85 × 55 mm (3.5 × 2 in) but I wasn't too strict and the image I used had a good size for 6 cards slightly smaller than standard.
3. The fun part! Bring out your fun stamps and colourful inks and decorate!
4. Lay your information. I had bought a DIY letter stamp sometime before(similar to these) so I just assembled my shop name and e-mail.
5. Ready to spread the word!

Ps: I could've designed something with photoshop or illustrator and printed but I have true love for the handmade. They might not look so professional but they have personality.

One of my intentions with this offer was also to get an opinion on my work and see which pictures attract more. Dear friends, let's kick this week with some good news, for me and for you.
Some time ago dear Ana invited me to her beautifully curated interview series and I felt really honoured since I love to read Ana's interviews. She does a great research on every artist and quite insightful questions. I really enjoyed answering her questions, made me reflect on my evolution and also artistic process as a photographer.
