thanksgiving

reparei que se calhar ando a ler demasiados blogs americanos. no meu google reader hoje havia imensas referências ao dia da acção de graças, que é uma festividade tão distante para mim (só dos filmes!). espero um dia poder juntar-me a alguém do outro lado do atlântico para entender melhor o seu significado.
segundo a wikipédia era tradicionalmente uma festividade para agradecer a deus as boas colheitas anuais mas é actualmente uma razão para juntar a família e amigos para uma refeição saborosa.
e, calculo, perder algum tempo para agradecer as coisas boas da vida.
tenho estado ausente do blog mas por boas razões: decidi participar na minha primeira feira e também abrir uma loja online para vender as minhas fotografias e calendário. mais tarde partilho mais informações.
este é um passo gigante para mim porque tenho muita dificuldade em acreditar na qualidade do meu trabalho ou na beleza das minhas fotografias. quando recebo um elogio, penso muitas vezes que a pessoa está apenas a ser simpática e que não é mesmo verdade. mas a crescente atenção que as minhas fotografias têm merecido fez-me decidir ultrapassar o medo da exposição e das críticas e pôr o meu trabalho out there!
e por isso hoje estou grata pela minha familía, pelos meus amigos e por todos vós que acreditam e me encorajam todos os dias. arigato!

i noticed today that i might be reading too many american blogs. thanksgiving was everywhere on my google reader. this is a holiday that is totally foreign for me (well, not totally because of american movies...) and i still hope one day i might join someone across the atlantic and experience it.
according to wikipedia, thanksgiving "traditionally, it has been a time to give thanks for a bountiful harvest" but now is a reason to gather family and friends on a sumptuous meal. 
and i guess take some time to be grateful for the good things in life.
i have been absent again here in the blog. good reason why: i decided to participate in a christmas fair for the first time and also open an online shop to sell my pictures and calendar. i'll share more info about both later. 
this is a big step for me as i have a hard time in believing on the quality of my work or the beauty of my photographs. if i get a compliment i usually think people are are just being nice and it's not really true. but growing attention of my photographs have made me decide to overcome the fear of exposure and critics and put my work out there!
and so today i am grateful for my family, my friends and all of you who believe and encourage me everyday. arigato!

on solitude

if you live with someone else (a friend, a housemate, a spouse or parents) you may have felt like you don't have a minute alone. i sure have. i work in an open space, my work involves talking to people all day and when i get home the time is too short to shut away and not talk (and of course i enjoy my boyfriends' company and conversations a lot!). very often the world is just too much and i feel i need to escape some place (i always imagine some house by the beach or in the countryside) and just be alone. let my mind float without interruptions, face myself and my fears and just be. and listen to beach house on and on and on.

so i'm home alone this week while my beloved is travelling and while i could keep daydreaming of the house-by-the-beach i'm enjoying these days alone in our place a lot (although still missing my love so much).
because solitude is not loneliness. and it's good to learn to spend time with yourself.

and speaking of solitude i must share a wonderful video where poet/singer/songwriter Tanya Davis performs a beautiful poem written by her.

the seasons in portugal can be quite boring: it's always summer and suddenly starts raining and get's cold. one thing that always bothered me was that trees are almost always green. so i was pretty excited to see autumn in germany when leaves get beautiful colored in yellow, red and orange. and i was pretty lucky!

the divine comedy

eu ADORO o neil hannon desde o dia em que o meu irmão trouxe para casa "a short album about love". nessa altura ele era o meu guru musical e costumava comprar imensos cd's. em casa eu ouvia e, se gostasse, pagava por metade do cd (que generosa!). lembro-me que com este cd dos divine comedy eu quis logo comprar o cd todo. foi o início de um longo amor.

este ano os divine comedy lançaram um album novo: "bang goes the knigthood" e é bastante bom. ouvi-o sem parar e disse ao meu namorado: "sabes, estou um bocado chateada que os divine comedy não toquem em portugal há tanto tempo e gostava mesmo de o ouvir. e que tal procurarmos um concerto numa cidade europeia qualquer que também queiramos visitar?". "boa!" respondeu ele (♥). Vimos então a tour europeia que estava marcada e escolhemos paris - não seria maravilhoso ver o concerto em paris! mas depois veio o verão e estávamos demasiado ocupados para nos lembrarmos dos bilhetes. quando percebemos que era melhor despachar-mo-nos já era tarde demais, o concerto em paris estava esgotado! bolas! imediatamente fomos ver que outras opções tínhamos e agora já havia também berlim! excelente! comprámos os bilhetes e depois o voo e fomos até berlim.

nota 1: eu não acho que os the divine comedy são a melhor banda do mundo, só sinto que as músicas são perfeitas para mim.

nota 2: pouco tempo depois de comprarmos os bilhetes para berlin foram anunciados dois concertos em lisboa (e agora mais dois no norte!). :D bom, não há fome que não dê em fartura e também já tenho bilhetes para lisboa!

i LOVE neil hannon since the day my brother brought home "a short album about love". at that time he was my musical guru and used to buy all the cd's. at home i would listen and, if i liked it, i would pay for half the cd (very generous of me!). i recall arguing that i wanted to pay for all the divine comedy cd. that was the beginning of a beautiful love.


so earlier this year the divine comedy release a new album "bang goes the knigthood" and it's pretty good. i listened over and over and then i told my boyfriend "you know, i'm disappointed that the divine comedy haven't played in portugal for so long, and i really missed it. shall we find a concert somewhere in a european city we want to go too?", "of course!" he replied (oh, how i adore him!). so we checked the european tour and choose paris - wouldn't it be great to watch a concert in paris. then summer came and we were too busy getting sun tanned and we never bought the tickets. when we realize we should hurry, it was too late, the concert in paris was sold out! damn! so imediately we checked our other options and berlin was so obvious! we bought the tickets and then the flight and then we went to berlin.

note 1: i don't think the divine comedy are the best band in the world, i just feel that almost every song is right for me.
note 2: shortly after we bought the berlin tickets, the divine comedy announced two concerts in lisbon. :D well, you can't never have too much so i bought new tickets for lisbon too.
