daydreaming about berlin

Berlin Alexander Platz

i'm daydreaming about berlin, where i'm headed in two days. it's been 9 (!!!) years since last time. i was there with my norwegian classmates for our architecture project site recognition and now, totally by chance, i'll be staying at a friend's place near the same site.

since the day i left i wanted to return and now i can't wait to get on the plane!

i remeber finding it hard to capture an image of berlin, it's so big and complex but i'm sure my camera will shoot a lot! especially if i find (as i'm hoping) beautiful autumn leaves...

if you have any reccomendations please let me know in the comments! danke!

yakuza

the photography book now awards by blurb were announced today and made me discover an amazing project by a belgian photographer, anton kusters. anton somehow managed to get in touch and sort of get accepted by a group of yakuza (aka the japanese mafia) and is getting an incredible insight of this amazing culture. the yakuza is probably the most fascinating japanese subculture and i can't wait to get a copy of the book. congratulations anton! and good luck with your project.

recovering lazyholic

i got to know erin hanson's work through the great series "reminders". then i started digging through her portfolio (love the series "need to want less")and following her blog and i must say she's one of a kind. i adore her minimal incisive thoughts and the sarcastic humour. and best, it's for sale in printed version.

the august break - finito!

so i managed the 31 photos! good girl! not exactly one a day but still made me pay attention to my life during this month and to acknowledge how damn lucky i am. it's so easy to get lost in everyday rush and feel that the days are all the same and boring. this small project made realized that every day there is something (even if sometimes just a little something) that makes you smile and, well, we should be grateful for that!

the japan photo project

pretty impressive this task that tina baguè and toru morimoto embraced: to cover the whole of japan in one year! they started January this year and are half through the project! incredible journey must be! ganbatte!

from the website:
The Japan Photo Project is a unique in-depth documentary photo project initiated by two photographers who plan to explore Japanese society through two different perspectives: the point of view of a Japanese native and the point of view of a Westerner. This collaboration between Toru Morimoto, documentary photographer from Kobe, and Tina Bagué, travel photographer from Barcelona, is an innovative approach that will result in an incredeible body of color and black and white images that will resonate with audiences world-wide. They want to show real Japan by ceating images that embody the true spirit of Japan, which foreigners often do not see and the natives often take for granted. They will travel all over Japan for one year, 2010, by a mortor home. Once the project is completed, the works will become a photography book, and the exhibition will travel as many cities as possible.

the august break

so i have decided to take the challenge susannah conway proposed last month called the august break.
there are no rules but a photo (or more) a day, every day of august. THIS will be hard as i haven't been very present here in the blog but I wanna make it work.
I've been having many up and downs recently, some victories, some defeats but sometimes i fear that my so-so-melancholic side will take over my optimism. August is a very slow paced month here in portugal, i'ts too hot and everybody leaves in holidays. I'm staying in town and have decided for my august break to look only for things i like on my everyday life. It's easy to take your life for granted and not enjoy it any more so this will be an exercise of discover beauty in everyday life.
I hope you enjoy!
