in the river

a máquina avariou e estou a ressacar. gosto da sensação de "precisar" de tirar fotografias. já recebi o horribilis orçamento e mais uns dias para voltar a disparar.
também gosto de atravessar o rio, principalmente ao entardecer. a imagem abaixo fez-me lembrar o trabalho desta japonesa, que conheci via iso50, excelente blog do scott hansen e companhia.



my camera is broken and i'm missing it so much. i'm enjoying this feeling of "needing" to take pictures. i got the *expensive* budget repair and i hope it will be a couple of days to start shooting again.


i also like to cross the river, specially at dawn. the image above reminded me of this photographer, whose work i got to know trough iso50, scott hansen & company excelent blog

if it was my home

o desastre ecológico no golfo do méxico nem tem sido muito falado nas notícias aqui por portugal talvez porque pareça lá longe e um problema de outro país.
e é difícil entender a magnitude da questão, especialmente da área afecta.
ifitwasmyhome mostra uma sobreposição da dimensão actual da mancha de óleo no googlemaps com a localização desejada. se fosse em portugal, o país estaria praticamente coberto de petróleo, o que é uma imagem bastante assustadora.

espero que este terrível acidente nos faça pensar como estamos a viver as nossas vidas e no que devíamos fazer para proteger o planeta.

the oil spill in the mexican gulf hasn't been much in the news here in portugal. i guess it's because its seems so far and another country's problem.
it is also difficult to understand the magnitude of the situation.
ifitwasmyhome shows a overlapping image of the size of the oil spill in googlemaps with any location. if it was in portugal, the country would be almost all covered in oil, which is a pretty frightening idea.


i really hope this disaster will make us reflect more on how are we living our lives and protecting the planet.

summer

revelei recentemente um filme da lomo que estava à espera há séculos e encontrei estas imagens de um verão de há uns anos. esta é a magia dos rolos, nem me lembro quando tirei estas fotos.

não me tenho sentido muito em "modo verão", talvez porque o tempo não esteja assim tão quente. o que é óptimo quando se tem que ficar na cidade e trabalhar. a verdade é que odeio os dias extremamente quentes do verão português por isso está muito bem assim!

também posso estar em negação porque não vou ter férias de verão, apesar de não me poder queixar muito visto que, este ano, já passei 3 semanas maravilhosas no final de verão do hemisfério sul....

este fim-de-semana promete ser excelente, espero que o aproveitem!

i finally got a lomo film developed and this pictures from a summer a couple of years ago appeared. that's the magic of film, i don't even remember when this pictures where taken!

i haven't been feeling very summery lately, maybe because the weather isn't that incredibly hot. which is great when you must stay in town and go to work. i actually hate the *very* hot summer days of portugal (unless there's the ocean or a poll at my feet)
maybe i'm in a denial phase because i'm won't have any summer holidays, which i shouldn't complaint since i've been  indulging myself in the late summer of the south hemisphere for 3 lovely weeks a couple of months ago...


this weekend will be lovely, i hope you enjoy it!

up in the air

i'm lucky enough to have a crazy friend who just bought a II world war airplane who invited a bunch of friends for a flight around santarém. i was really nervous before entering the plane but had promised myself i wouldn't miss this chance for nothing! well, i'm so glad i got on that plane. the moment we left the ground i was relaxed, it just felt so natural, like floating... i even got to pilot the beast for a tiny while! thank you so much carlos!

suffle magic

todas as manhãs a caminho do trabalho vivo num videoclip com os headphones nos ouvidos. passeio-me com um ipod shuffle pela conveniência do tamanho e porque me o deram. há uma coisa que não gosto nos shuffle que é não poder ver o nome ou controlar a ordem das músicas e ter que ficar 10 segundo com muita atenção a tentar reconhecer a música ou, para os impacientes como eu, estar sempre a carregar no botão forward à espera "daquela" música.

e às vezes há os alinhamentos perfeitos como o de segunda feira passada em que (juro!) não toquei no botão forward:

every morning with my headphones i live a videoclip on my way to work. i walk around with a ipod shuffle for it's convenient size and beacuse it was a gift :). one thing i don't like about the shuffle is the impossibility of seeing the song's name or control the music order. you must wait 10 seconds to recognize the song or if you're terribly unpatient like me youre continuously pressing the forward button expecting "the" song.


and sometimes, like a miracle there is the perfect song sequence like the one last monday when (i swear!) dind't once touch the forward button:

acabo de ouvir no telejornal que os portugueses, coitadinhos, estão muito pobres e por isso têm que andar de transportes públicos! txi, vejam lá que nojo, um dia destes até terão que andar pé para ir comprar o jornal! e o governo, não faz nada?

às vezes não há mesmo paciência!

iguazu i love you

depois de 18 horas num autocarro chegámos exaustos a puerto iguazu. recuperámos rapidamente graças à hospitabilidade da sofia e do daniel, proprietários do fantástico hotel los troncos, um espaço feito com tanto amor onde nos sentimos logo em casa. foi a nossa prenda para um sítio tão especial como iguazu.
depois de um café forte fomos para o brasil para ver a "primeira parte" das cataratas. o rio iguaçu divide 3 países: argentina, brasil e o paraguai. uma fenda enorme provoca as cataratas que estão na sua maioria no lado argentino, do lado brasileiro têm-se vistas soberbas.
no dia seguinte caminhámos sempre no lado argentino que é muito maior e onde se pode chegar mesmo perto das quedas de água.









não tenho dúvidas que estas cataratas são um dos fenómenos mais bonitos do mundo. nenhuma destas imagens consegue descrever o que é estar defronte de uma imensidão de água destas, o que é sentir uma força assim. é completamente avassalador. quem lá esteve deve entender o que eu digo, quem não esteve desejo que a vida vos leve até lá.

after 18 hours of travelling on a bus we arrived in puerto iguazu exausted. we quickly recovered our strenght after being so welcomed at hotel los troncos by sofia and daniel. this hotel was made with so much love you can only feel at home when there. it was our little treat for such a special place, like iguazu.
of course, we quickly headed for brazil to see the "first part" of the falls. the iguazu river actually divides 3 countries, argentina, brazil and paraguay. the actual falls are mostly in argentina but you can have an amazing view from the brazilian side.
the next day we walked on the argentinian side, which is much bigger and you can get *really* close to the falls.





i have no doubt these falls are one of the most beautiful places in the world. none of these picture can describe how it feels to be in front of this massive amount of water. it's truly breathtaking. if you've been there you know what i mean, if you haven't i sure hope life takes you there.

the road to north

depois da frenética buenos aires rumámos para norte. viajámos sempre de autocarro e não tenho senão elogios para os estupendos autocarros argentinos. assentos confortáveis e totalmente reclináveis, refeições quentes e filmes a bordo, pontualidade e profissionalismo e o melhor de tudo: paisagens incríveis pela janela.
sem viagens de avião internas tivémos que deixar muito (muito mesmo) da argentina por ver, mas eu gosto muito deste modo mais vagaroso de viajar, parece que cada quilómetro é integrado para nos preparar para a próxima paragem. as distâncias na argentina são assustadoras, andam-se quilómetros e quilómetros em estradas rectas sem se ver vivalma (tão diferente da europa!). é a atmosfera perfeita para se deixar ir e apaziguar uma mente inquieta como a minha...

after the frentic buenos aires we headed north. in argentina we always travelled in buses and i can only say the best things of the argentinian buses. confortable and tottaly reclinable seats, hot meals, movies on board, punctuality and professionalism and the best of all: amazing landscapes out the window.
without making any internal flights we had to leave out a lot (really a lot) of argentina to see, but i really enjoy this slower way of travelling, its seems every kilometer is making us ready for the next stop. the distances in argentina are scary, you can drive for miles and miles in straight roads without seeing a soul (so different from europe). it's the perfect atmosphere to let go and pacify a restless mind like mine...
